Big City Coffee Winner

And the winner of the 12oz bag of Chickadee Brand coffee is…

Andi is having one lucky week, because as you’ll recall, she also won the Kolobags giveaway yesterday! My jaw dropped when the winning number turned out to be hers. Maybe you should buy a lotto ticket this week, Andi!

Website Review: EMI.com

If you’re a music lover like myself, then you might enjoy EMI’s official website. Filled with biographies, photos, and the latest news about popular artists as well as some up-and-comers, EMI.com has a wealth of information as well as music samples to enjoy. One of the features, the “Discover” section, is a Pandora-esque setup that suggests a sampling of artists based on your tastes. For example, I typed in “Nine Inch Nails” and was taken to a page of artist recommendations where I could stream music previews and discover new bands. You can also create an account and make your own widget playlists with songs from your favorite EMI artists. Here’s one that I put together:

It’s a neat idea, but I found it to be a bit tricky to use. Also, these are just brief previews, not full songs – so I think most people would stick to making MySpace playlists rather than using this. I realize that there are legal issues regarding streaming music online, and EMI do note in their FAQ that they are exploring further options in this regard. (It also appears that those living in the UK can stream full songs, so my readers back home are in luck!)

Additionally, when I first loaded the site, I noticed that the music sample player was embedded everywhere and auto-played the same 30-second clip every time I loaded a new page, which got a bit old – so I have mixed feelings about the widget. I think it is a good concept that just needs a little more tweaking. However, I should point out that this is a Beta version of the website, and they are still testing out new features to see what people will like.

So what do you think of EMI.com?

Programming Note

I’m not going to be around much this week, because I am preparing to hold a giant estate sale this weekend. After my mom passed away in 2003, I inherited everything – and every nook and cranny of storage space in my home is jam packed with stuff. So now we are going through it all and deciding what to keep, what other family members would like to have, and selling everything else. The photo above is what my living room looks like as I sort and price things, and as you can see, I have my hands full! I’ll be checking in periodically, but I won’t have as much time to answer emails or write posts until the sale is done. But I’ll be back shortly, and there are lots of neat giveaways coming soon to make up for it!

Contest at It’s a Blu World

BluFrog energy drinks are hosting a fabulous contest on their website, It’s a Blu World. One lucky winner will get to pick one of five prize packages: A Blugamer Ultimate Gaming Package, which includes a Xbox 360 Elite Gaming System and a Rock Band 2 bundle, a New Year’s Eve Trip to New York, a trip to Lolapalloza in Chicago, a Richard Petty Racing Experience, or a trip to the Winter X Games in Aspen. How neat!

You can enter up to three times by Tweeting about the contest, blogging about the contest, and leaving a comment on the contest page – click here for the official rules and more information. Contest runs from June 16th through July 17th.

If I were the lucky winner of this contest, I think I might pick the gamer’s package. The most current gaming system I own is my SNES, and while I love the old-school games, it would be fun to try something current. I played Rock Band for the first time a few months ago, and it is so much fun! That’s a game I’d love to own.

What about you? What prize package would YOU pick if you were the lucky winner?
