ChicaPC-fix Software *Giveaway Closed*

This post is sponsored by ChicaLogic.

ChicaPC-fix is a PC Optimizer from ChicaLogic, designed by women for women. ChicaLogic’s goal is to empower everyday users with simple-to-use software. I was sent a complimentary activation code to try out the software, so I installed it on my laptop, which has a fresh Windows install and has not had any optimization programs run on it yet.

ChicaPC-fix was easy to install and comes with a straightforward, easy-to-use interface. I ran the PC Health Scan, and it came up with 982 errors.

Upon selecting the “Fix Now” button, the program rapidly cleaned out 200 megabytes of system files. The entire process was very fast and simple.

ChicaPC-fix does a good job of cleaning problematic areas that affect all computers, such as unnecessary registry entries and temporary files. While other registry cleaner programs may be more thorough, ChicaPC-fix is good for the everyday user because it is easier to operate and will not clean out areas that could cause potential problems. Each computer has different circumstances and some users will have areas they don’t wanted cleaned, such as saved passwords. It can be dangerous to use a program that wipes everything clean if you’re not equipped to troubleshoot potential errors and damage that could arise by removing a lot of system files. By using ChicaPC-fix, you don’t have to worry that you might “Break” something or cause problems.

For the average user, I think ChicaPC-fix would be a great way to keep your system cleaned out in a fast, safe manner.

“Change of Plans” Movie Trailer

P&G and Walmart recently sent me a movie previewing kit for the upcoming film “Change of Plans”, which airs on FOX on January 8 at 8/7c. I received a selection of goodies to preview the flick with, including candy, popcorn, and a blanket to snuggle under!

Up to this point, Sally Danville’s life has played out just as she hoped it would. A beautiful and free-spirited musician, she and her fighter-pilot husband, Jason, live life on the go, free of domestic responsibilities. But with a single phone call from Child & Family Services case worker, Dorothy (Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show), she learns that things don’t always go according to plan. Sally (Brooke White, American Idol) is met with the news that her best friend from college has died in a tragic accident on a Peace Corps mission and has named Sally the legal guardian of her four kids – 3 of them adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and Jason (Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis) must quickly learn to parent this instant family and help the kids deal with the culture clash of life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.

Thanks to P&G and Walmart for providing me with the fun movie previewing kit in exchange for this coverage!

Tell me, readers: Do you have “Family movie night” at your house? Will you be tuning in to watch this film?

We Did It! 100,000 Days of Clean Drinking Water

P&G Give Health

As you may recall, Contest Corner recently joined Procter & Gamble’s GIVE HEALTH initiative to donate clean drinking water to those in need. Thanks to YOUR clicks, the program achieved its goal of 100,000 days of water donated ahead of schedule! Thank you so much for helping us reach this wonderful goal. P&G sent me the following information about this milestone, along with more ways you can help the cause:

We Did It! 100,000 Days of Clean Drinking Water

Thanks to so many of you, Contest Corner has helped generate 100,000 days of clean drinking water through P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (P&G CSDW). We crossed the finish line with hundreds of other bloggers who embedded the P&G Clean Water Blogivation widget on their sites. Every time a reader clicked, P&G committed to make one day (2 liters) of clean drinking water available to someone in need in a developing country.

To help you, our readers, understand the impact you made by pitching in with the Blogivation, check out this video about P&G CSDW’s work in Tanzania. It’s just one of the many stories about people who P&G CSDW – with the help of partners like World Vision, CARE, Save the Shildren and others – has been able to provide access to clean drinking water.

The PUR packet – developed by P&G in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – is an innovation that quickly turns contaminated water into clean, drinkable water. Every day more than 4,000 children in developing countries die, simply because they don’t have clean drinking water, and more than 1 billion people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water

For that reason, Contest Corner is so excited to have been able to make a positive impact through the P&G Clean Water Blogivation on We hope you will stay involved on the P&G myGIVE Facebook page – for each new “like” and “share” through January 31, P&G will donate an extra day of clean water – and continue supporting extraordinary Change Agents around the world through, our partner in helping P&G rally our readers to GIVE a day of water.

ShaToBu Shapewear Review

As the New Year approaches, many of us will be making resolutions to work off those holiday pounds and don a new look. ShaToBu is a unique shapewear line that claims it can help you burn calories while you smooth your silhouette. I was intrigued by the idea, so when ShaToBu offered to send me a High Waist to Knee Shaper in Beige, I was looking forward to seeing what it could do.

High Waist to Knee Shaper in Beige

My sample of ShaToBu arrived the day before our engagement photos – is that perfect timing, or what?! It came attractively packaged with a pink tape measure and a pedometer. I was so glad to have it, because I had bought a white dress for the pictures, and beige shapewear is pretty much a necessity when wearing white garments – it seems to be the only thing that doesn’t show through. The dress I bought online ended up being so see-through that I literally wondered how anyone could ever wear it; but once I slipped on the High Waist to Knee Shaper , you couldn’t see a thing – it made the dress look perfect without any dreaded panty lines or slip seams. Since the dress was short, I made sure to pull the legs of the shapewear further up my thighs so they wouldn’t show.

Here’s how my dress looked in the engagement pictures:

The other benefit of shapewear is, of course, the contours that it adds to your figure. No piece of shapewear is going to work miracles; you’re not going to put it on and look 50 pounds lighter. However, it does add support and definition, which makes you feel that much more confident. The garment is fairly comfortable – I was eager to take it off at the end of the day, but to be fair, I feel that way about most bras as well. (I can’t be the only one who just wants to change into PJs at the end of a long day!)

As for the calorie burning, I can’t vouch for what effects that may or may not have, but here is some information which ShaToBu provided about their product:

Whether it’s losing weight, getting in more (or any) exercise, buying a new wardrobe or changing their hair style,  the onset of a New Year means many American women will resolve to get in shape and update their appearance.  This year, however, there is a new product that can really make a difference!   ShāToBu – The Workout You Wear™ – is the first-ever shaper scientifically proven to help women shape, tone muscles and burn more calories when worn during daily living activities – all without changing their regular routine.

Independent researchers at the University of Virginia have shown that women burned more calories during treadmill walking and stair climbing activities that simulate everyday movement when they wore the new shaper ShāToBu™.

“ShāToBu increases the impact of everyday movement, but does not replace the need to be physically active,” said Dr. Denise Perron, vice president, research & development, Mayfair Tech, Inc., who is a chiropractor and the creator of ShāToBu.  “ShāToBu uses seamless resistance band technology to make muscles work a little harder during natural movement. So when you’re out walking while shopping, picking the kids up from a play date or walking to work, you’ll be getting in your light workout!”

ShāToBu tones the muscles of the hips and thighs due to the resistance bands within the garment, which provide 90 to 116 percent more resistance in movement, which causes an increase in muscle activity in the targeted areas causing toning, as well as an average of up to 12 percent more caloric burn when worn during daily living activities.
