My New Hair Color: Nice ‘n Easy Non-Permanent Review

Nice 'N Easy Non-Permanent Hair Dye

It’s no secret that I’m fond of changing my look. I’ve been dying my hair for years – in fact, 2012 is the first time I’ve had my hair its natural color in about a decade! I had let it grow out because I’ve been dealing with chronic knee pain for so long that anything non-vital fell to the wayside. Now that I’m feeling so much better, I’ve been able to start doing things that I enjoy again – so when I got a special blogger invitation from Vocalpoint to try out a new haircolor, this seemed like perfect timing! After all, my natural blonde hair makes a perfect canvas for new color. 😉 I received a coupon in the mail for a free box of Nice ‘n Easy Non-Permanent Hair Color, and headed to Rite Aid to check it out.

This is a new box color from Nice ‘n Easy, intended to wash out in 28 shampoos. Non-permanent hair color is a good option for those who don’t want to commit completely to a new color – but since we all know that I’m fearless when it comes to color, I wasn’t worried about that. So of course, I had to take a more unconventional route! 😉 I ended up buying color #83, black. Yes, black, and I was blonde before! Now, if you pick something this far outside your natural color range, of course it is not going to be non-permanent, and will wash out more slowly, or possibly not at all; so buyer beware, but this wasn’t a concern for me. In fact, I think it might make it easier when it comes time to bleach out the black dye and start all over again! Ha!

My hair before coloring with Nice 'n Easy

Here is a picture of my hair before dying – forgive the frizziness, but I had just bleached my hair and it was still recovering. Once again, if you go more than a few shades darker than your natural hair color or put this over hair that is already color-treated – as mine was – it will NOT be non-permanent.

As far as using the dye goes, it was very easy – the mixing process works the same as any other standard box dye, and the color only takes 15 minutes to process. I was actually doing multiple colors, putting streaks of blue in the front and the Nice ‘n Easy on the back of my hair. Here is the finished result:

My new hair!

See, Nice ‘n Easy can be whatever you want – mild-mannered and more temporary, or bright and bold like this! 😉 I’m happy with how my new ‘do turned out, and I’m very curious to see if this Nice ‘n Easy color will be easier to bleach over than other black dyes when the time comes – if so, they will have a new fan in me! I’ll keep you posted!

  1. ok, i LOVE the front- so I have to ask- you bleached hair out and then used which color to get the green and blue?
How long will the colors last? Do they wash out with each shampoo?

    Thanks for info!

  2. I love the blue streaks! I have always wanted to do that, I just don’t have the courage. It looks wonderful on you, love the matching eyeshadow!

  3. Thank you everyone!

Nicole – So the colors I used were Electric Blue (The dark shade) by Special Effects and True Blue (The lighter shade) by Raw Color. Both of these are semi-permanent and intended to last around 3-6 weeks, so they do fade gradually although I would say that if you put them over bleached hair, you’ll probably end up bleaching them out or coloring over them. It would probably wash out more subtly if you just put it over your natural color – they do rinse out a little with each shampoo, so buy black towels. 😉 For someone who wanted to dabble with bright colors, I would probably recommend trying a more temporary dye first so you don’t get stuck with it if it’s not for you.

    Terra – Nice color combo!

  4. I love it! Absolutely love it! I’ve never been much of a dyer. I don’t like the hassle of maintenance. But since my hair is super short now, everyone says I have way too much gray, so I’ve been considering it.
