Parfait Party Giveaway: Redwood Hill Farm & Green Valley Organics Prize Pack ARV $57 – 2 Winners – Ends 10/24

Redwood Hill Farm Erewhon Parfait

Looking for a tasty breakfast idea that your kids can customize to their own tastes? Then why not have a “Parfait party” in your kitchen and let your family choose their toppings? Or perhaps an after-school smoothie would be more to your liking. Whatever your preference, this awesome prize pack from Redwood Hill Farm & Green Valley Organics will provide you with all the delicious supplies you need to get started, so read on!

Redwood Hill Farm and Green Valley Organics are two great family companies owned by Jennifer Bice. These sister brands specialize in dairy goat products and lactose-free dairy products, respectively. Both are produced at a solar-powered creamery and have been certified as humane. Their unique products include yogurts, cheese, and kefir – which is a drinkable yogurt, in case you were wondering!

I recently received a complimentary box full of goodies from both brands, and I was excited to give them a try! The package included a generous selection of regular cup yogurts. The Green Valley yogurts come in flavors ranging from fruits like blueberry and peach, to more subtle tastes such as honey and plain. I really liked these a lot – these are definitely a “Fruit on the bottom” style of yogurt that you’ll want to stir well, which is nice, because it’s real, chunky fruit! What amazes me is that you can have real dairy products that are lactose-free. I had no idea this was even possible, so I read the FAQ on their website and discovered that they achieve this by adding the natural enzyme lactase to their products. I’ve never had issues with dairy – in fact, I think I’m lactose SUPER-tolerant, because dairy actually makes me feel better if I’m under the weather! – but I can still enjoy these nice yogurts!

Meanwhile, the Redwood Hill Farm yogurts are made from goat milk and come in flavors like Cranberry Orange, Vanilla and Wildflower Honey. Now I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of the way goat tastes, so Jai ended up eating most of these, although I had a taste of his Redwood Hill Farm Blueberry yogurt and it was good, even if it wasn’t quite for my tastebuds. Jai loved these, especially the ones with fruit. The distinctive flavor of goat milk was a little more apparent in the plain variety, he said, but he still very much enjoyed it.

As I mentioned above, a great way to make yogurt into a fun after-school snack or complete breakfast is to get your kids excited with a “Parfait Party”! To do this, set out an array of toppings like granola, nuts, cereal, fruit – whatever appeals! Then let your kids assemble their own great creations. Redwood Hill Farm & Green Valley Organics Kefir Smoothies

If you don’t have time to sit at the table, then try a “Smoothie Party” instead! This works in a similar fashion, except this time you throw the ingredients in a blender, make yourself a smoothie, and carry it with you on the go!

The drinkable yogurts, or kefir, which I received are absolutely perfect for smoothies. I’ve always been a smoothie fan, so I know that when you make a yogurt smoothie you’ll also need to put in juice or milk to make it a drinkable consistency. Since kefir is ready to drink straight from the bottle, it eliminates the need for multiple ingredients!

The Green Valley Organics kefirs come in three varieties: Blueberry Pom Açaí, Strawberry Pom Açaí, and plain. These were my very favorite product – it has such a great flavor and is easy to grab and drink for a snack while you’re busy. Jai said he was pleasantly surprised by the kefir, telling me that the plain tasted like vanilla yogurt & buttermilk to him. Indeed, he was a little skeptical of how good the Redwood Hill Farm goat milk kefirs in Mango Pineapple, Plain and Blueberry Pomegranate would taste, but they ended up being his favorite as well!

As for smoothies, it couldn’t be simpler to make. I decided to create my own using the Strawberry Pom Açaí, a banana, and ice – simple, fast, and tasty! In case you’re wondering how this fits into our diet plan, this counted as both a PowerFuel and SmartCarb, which I had in the afternoon. Although our plan usually recommends plain yogurt, we’ve incorporated flavored yogurts like these by checking how much sugar and calories we’re taking in and scaling down the portion accordingly. I think making a few substitutions is OK so long as we stick with the general ratio and type of product suggested.

Garlic & Chive Chevre

But it doesn’t stop at yogurt – we also received a selection of lovely artisan goat cheese and lactose-free sour cream! So far, we’ve only gotten a chance to sample the Garlic & Chive Chevre cheese, which I photographed above. As I mentioned, I have a hard time with goat products because of its specific flavor, but I could still tell that this was a quality cheese even if goat products aren’t for my particular palate. Jai really liked this and enjoyed having it as his mid-morning snack – I served it with carrots, but he enjoyed it just by itself!

We still have a few cheeses and kefir flavors left to try, along with the sour cream. When there’s only two people in the house, we have to be careful how many perishable products we open at once since we don’t want them to go off and be wasted! I will keep you updated, however!
