The Sparkle Box

Are you looking for a storybook to gift to your child this holiday season? Then this giveaway is for you! TWO lucky Contest Corner readers will each with a copy of The Sparkle Box by Jill Hardie, so read on!

When I was a child, we had a box with our Christmas decorations that contained holiday storybooks. I always enjoyed pulling these out and reading them during the holiday season. So when I received a copy of The Sparkle Box: A Gift with the Power to Change Christmas, I was immediately taken back to my childhood! Written by Jill Hardie and illustrated by Christine Kornack, this book follows the story of Sam, a young boy who is very excited for Christmas. He notices a shiny box on the mantel and asks his mother if it’s a gift for him. She tells him that it’s a very special present called a Sparkle Box that the whole family will open, but they must fill it first. Through the book, Sam participates in various holiday activities and watches the Sparkle Box with eagerness. As his family celebrates the season, they also teach Sam important lessons about helping others, by filling boxes for their local food bank and giving mittens to a homeless man.

When Christmas morning comes, Sam is so excited to open the Sparkle Box. Inside, he finds several slips of paper documenting the acts of kindness the family has performed over the holiday season. Sam’s parents explain that the Sparkle Box is their gift to Jesus – doing good deeds for others. The book also comes with your very own Sparkle Box, so that readers can adopt this tradition for their own. I think this book is sweet and reads like many of the classic Christmas books I grew up with.

  1. My husband works for a homeless organization, so I like the one about helping the homeless-blankets to keep people warm or food for people who don’t have enough to eat.

  2. Bake cookies and deliver them to people in your neighborhood with an invitation to attend your Christmas Eve service if they don’t have a church home.

  3. My children would like to give a gift that helped animals so I would use the Network for Good to search for a charity that could use our help.

  4. I love the idea of filling a little piece of paper out and putting it into the sparkle box..My favorite idea was adopting a grand parent=]

  5. You can do nice things for your neighbors if you don’t have enough money to buy things.

  6. I think ideas that require time are the best–there is no substitute for actually doing the serving!

  7. I liked the Bake cookies and deliver them to people in your neighborhood idea the best.

  8. Adopt a family for the holidays….write their names on papers for the boz and re-visit them in prayer every year!
