Beyond The Ribbon by Ponderosa Roasting: Coffee With a Cause

As you are likely aware, the start of October heralds the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you’re looking for a way to support those affected by this devastating disease but are limited on funds or time, then consider perhaps picking up an item you’d be purchasing anyway: Coffee.

That’s because the Ponderosa Roasting Coffee Company has a special blend on offer called Beyond The Ribbon, which was created especially for the Pretty In Pink Foundation. This organization was founded by breast cancer surgeon Dr. Lisa Tolnitch with the aim of helping patients with limited or no health insurance receive the life-saving breast cancer care they so urgently need. I was previously unfamiliar with this foundation, likely because they are only based in North Carolina at the moment, but they hope to become a nationwide organization in the coming years; and I think the mission outlined by Pretty In Pink is absolutely fantastic.

With every purchase of Beyond The Ribbon, coffee lovers are helping to support Pretty In Pink. Each bag retails for $12, and after costs for labor and supplies are deducted, the remainder of the proceeds are given to Pretty In Pink, who profiled this coffee in their last newsletter. I can’t think of an easier way to support this cause, since coffee is on most people’s shopping list anyway!

So we know that this coffee does good, but does it taste good? The answer to that is a resounding “YES”! I received a complimentary sample to taste-test, and I think it’s delicious – it’s a flavorful blend that is bold but but still very smooth. I have a cup of this on my desk at the moment and let me tell you, it won’t last long! Yum!
