Red Power Ranger Costume Review

Halloween 2012

The countdown is on to Halloween! Can you believe that it will be here in less than a month? It’s time to start planning your spooky decor, parties, and of course – costumes! Luckily, we can count on our good friends, the Power Rangers, to give us all the tips and hints we need to have a “Morphinominal” Halloween!

PowerRangers.com has a special Halloween section filled with safety tips and fun downloadable activity sheets, perfect for any Power Rangers fan. Check out the cute video above, with safety tips from the latest generation of rangers, the Super Samurai. Of course, adults who grew up with the show will remember the very first series, the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Longtime readers may remember my Pink Ranger costume review a few years back, which still remains one of my most memorable costumes ever. So it was with interest that I perused this year’s costume selection available on the Power Rangers website, which ranges from Samurai costumes for kids to nostalgic MMPR costumes for adults. Because I’m the expert on everything Power Rangers, I was sent a box containing some complimentary Power Rangers Halloween goodies for my evaluation. I was delighted to open the package and find this costume:

Red Power Ranger costume

Yes, that is an original Red Power Ranger costume from the original series! Now, since this is a man’s costume, Jai humored me volunteered to try it on for the review. 😉 He knows little to nothing about the Power Rangers, but he’s always a good sport – and the original Red Ranger was named Jason, so it must be some kind of sign, right?!

The Red Power Ranger costume in action!

Ta-dah! Here he is, in the full get-up. Once again, I am struck with the thought and attention to detail that has been put into these Mighty Morphin costumes. When you put these costumes on, you really look the part! Everything from the wrap-around plastic helmet (Attached by velcro) to the Morpher belt looks exactly as it should. What cracks me up about the men’s costume is the addition of the foamy padded muscles!!

Jai as Red Ranger!

Aren’t we going to look great in our matching Power Rangers outfits? 😉 The only thing that could make it a better couples costume is if he were dressed as White Ranger, since Tommy and Kimberly were the couple in the actual show. Ha!!

The only thing that is missing from the costume is the boots and gloves. For my Pink Ranger costume, I ended up wearing pink rubber dishwashing gloves and it worked nicely! Other than that, you’ve got everything you need right out of the bag. As with all costumes, the fabric is thin and the mask is made from plastic, so be somewhat careful while you’re wearing it and you’ll have it for Halloweens to come. Another nice feature on this costume is that although it appears somewhat snug, Jai was easily able to wear his heavy sweatpants underneath while we were taking these photos, which would make it a lot easier to keep warm on a cold October night.

  1. That’s so funny. Thank goodness Jai is a good sport. I can imagine trying to get Bryan to kick like that. 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh, my son is going to flip over that website! He and his little brother LOVE The Power Rangers!

I want to be a couple from My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding but my hubby will not participate! Bummer!

  3. What an awesome costume! He looks like he is having a ton of fun…and for the record I would totally wear that costume even though I’m not of the male variety.

  4. Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by!

Nina – if I didn’t already have a Pink Ranger costume I totally would too! LOL!

Jennifer – Aww! Maybe you can dress up a cardboard cutout in lieu of your hubby? Ha!

  5. My kids love the Power Rangers. when they were little they had matching suits from the Disney store.. semi matching one was always the blue one and one was the red one, it was the dinosaur series. Jai looked like a real true Power Ranger.

  6. You are SO lucky that you got him to agree to do the review for you. My husband would never agree. Well, maybe since it hides his face. I hope you’ll post pictures of the two of you together!
