Nutrisystem Week 2 Weigh-In

Nutrisystem Week 2 Weigh-In

We’ve wrapped up another fabulous week on Nutrisystem, and things have been going really well. I mentioned last week that we were planning to get a new scale, as ours seemed a little unreliable. We ended up receiving a precision digital scale from EatSmart to review, and it is so much more accurate. (Watch for that review and an accompanying giveaway later today!) It appears that our old one is about 2 pounds off – so when we started, Jai and I would have actually been two pounds heavier than the weight we recorded. No matter which scale you go by, though, we’ve still done great with our weight loss! I’ve put the comparison below with photos of what each scale had to say. Going forward, we’re just going to use the EatSmart scale as we know it’s the most accurate; I’m just going to leave the starting weights as they were, even though I know we were actually around 2 pounds higher, just because I already have all the stats recorded and photographed and it seems weird to go back and edit them now. So, on to the weigh-in!

Beeb’s Weigh-In:

Beeb's Week 2 Weight: New ScaleBeeb's Week 2 Weight: Old Scale

New Scale ———– Old Scale

Starting Weight: 164.5 lbs (Taken with old, wonky scale)
Week 2 Weight: 162.2 lbs (Taken with new, accurate scale)

Those photos above were taken within 5 minutes of each other – see what I mean about the difference?! From what I can tell, our old scale tells us a number 2 pounds lighter than reality. This means that my starting weight was likely around 166 pounds, and my current – accurate! – weight is 162.2 pounds. Losing 1-2 lbs per week is the healthy, recommended amount, so I’m super happy! Although I’m slightly jealous of Jai’s more dramatic number….

Jai’s Weigh-In:

Jai's Weight - Week 2

Starting Weight: 217.5 lbs (Taken with old, wonky scale)
Week 2 Weight: 208.6 lbs (Taken with new, accurate scale)

The man gets to eat 2 desserts each day on Nutrisystem, and look how much weight he’s lost in 2 weeks! Ladies, if you’ve ever gone on a diet with your husband, you feel my pain. 😉 And remember, his starting weight was likely about 2 pounds higher than the number we recorded, so he’s lost close to 10 pounds in reality. Wow!

I think doing this together is a really cool contrast, because Jai and I have such different capabilities at the moment. He’s been visiting the gym and doing intense physical labor on construction projects the last fortnight, while I am still recovering from my knee injury, so I’m still more limited in my daily mobility than I would be normally. My “Workouts” consist simply of following my very simple outpatient physio program. Naturally, Jai can lose weight a little bit faster since he can actually work out, but I’m still losing weight at the “Ideal” rate that doctors advise. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to know that I can still meet my goals despite being physically limited right now!

I also can’t tell you how wonderful it’s been to have Nutrisystem this last week, because my schedule has been insane. I’m always hyper-busy, but this week in particular has been extremely intense. I’m so thankful to have ready-to-go healthy meals that I can grab while I’m working, because I know otherwise that this would have been a takeaway week for sure. My body has adjusted to eating smaller meals all throughout the day instead of one big meal at night, so I haven’t had any hunger pangs this week and have in fact skipped a lot of my snacks – naughty, I know, but it wasn’t out of intention so much as an oversight because of all the chaos going on! It’s been more of an adjustment for Jai because he’s never been one to eat breakfast (A habit he’s wanted to change), so he finds that he gets cravings at night sometimes although he’s not actually hungry. He also realizes that he ought to scale up his vegetable intake during days where he does heavy labor. It’s a bigger change for him than me because he’s never really eaten small amounts through the day like this, whereas it’s more intuitive to me as I used to eat 3 meals a day at really regular time before my work schedule got so out of control. Jai’s excited to get the chance to develop healthier habits in such an effortless way with Nutrisystem!

So we faced a few different meal scenarios last week that I wanted to tell you about, since I know a lot of people wonder how they could practically apply this to their own lives. After all, since it’s just Jai and I, a lot of you are probably wondering how you would deal with it when you have families and kids to think about. I had a guest for lunch last week, so I want to show you what I did and how I was able to feed everyone the same things even though our guest is not on Nutrisystem:

Nutrisystem-friendly lunch

I set out a bowl of hard-boiled eggs (A PowerFuel), tuna (PowerFuel), hummus (Another review item, and also a SmartCarb!), celery, carrot sticks, and a big bowl of salad – vegetables are unlimited on the Nutrisystem plan. For our Nutrisystem lunch entrée, we had chicken salad, which directs you to add a small wheat roll to complete the meal. I couldn’t find wheat rolls at the store, but I did get a loaf of wheat bread for .99 cents, which is also Nutrisystem-approved. A slice and a half added up to the same calories as a wheat roll, so I just used it as a substitute. This way, our guest was free to help themselves to bread and sandwich supplies, and everything on the table was Nutrisystem-approved, so any leftovers could be used up without issue. The only thing that wasn’t Nutrisystem approved is the mustard and salad dressing, which I just set out for the guest since they were in my pantry anyway. It’s not like I was tempted by mustard or anything. 😉 We used the balsamic vinegar on our salads, and it was really nice. Here’s what Jai’s plate looked like, as an example:

An example Nutrisystem lunch

He put the tuna on a salad and ate carrots and celery with his hummus.

Nutrisystem-friendly salad

Here’s an example of a salad that Jai had for lunch on another day. He hadn’t gotten a chance to eat his morning PowerFuel, so I added two to the salad. He got this salad in addition to a Nutrisystem soup, which isn’t pictured.

Another challenge we faced last week was eating on plan while on-the-go. We drove into Tigard for the Brave movie screening, which meant that we left at 3:30 pm and didn’t get home until around 11 pm. I dealt with this by taking along bananas (A SmartCarb) two Nutrisystem soups, and our desserts. The soups are meant to be heated up for maximum taste, but they are already cooked and can be eaten cold if you want, so I brought along two of the chili variety as I thought that would taste the best without heating. That might bug some people, but we didn’t care and I welcomed something easy that we could take with us. Alternatively, we could have eaten out and gotten something Nutrisystem-compatible – even a McDonald’s salad would have been OK if I had them hold the dressing/croutons – but I didn’t feel like spending the extra money when we had something right at hand that we could eat!

The difficult thing about movies is that they are so long nowadays that it would have been nice to have our SmartCarb snacks with us. But movie theaters don’t tend to sell anything compatible with a diet plan and of course you can’t bring in your own; so, for our dessert, I packed two bags of Nutrisystem popcorn and we ate that in the car after the movie was over. Popcorn and snack items are classed as a dessert on Nutrisystem, so you can choose weather you want something sweet or savory for your nighttime snack.

So there you have it – week 2 on Nutrisystem and feeling great!

As members of the Nutrisystem Nation Blogger Panel, Jai and I will be receiving the Nutrisystem program free of charge in order to share our honest opinions with you. Always consult with your physician before embarking on any weight loss or exercise program.

  1. you know what’s funny? I have that same old wonky scale and was having the same problems. WE just got a new one too! and that tuna doesn’t look too bad. I always worry about how that food looks! Thanks for showing picks!

  2. Oh that is frustrating! It’s good you noticed the difference though so you could figure out your weight loss properly. I agree the movies would be tough. It is too bad they don’t offer diet friendly options.

  3. CONGRATS!!!

Isn’t funny how scales are off?! I have a scale that I LOVE, but I can stand on it, get a weight and re-weigh 10 minutes later with different results.

  4. Love the new scale!! And very interesting how you talk about ways to include this diet in regular life!

  5. You are doing great. Never compete with a man in a diet all they have to do is think about losing weight and it falls off of them. We women really have to work at it ;).

  6. I have that scale! Love it!

And you are doing great. Keep it up!

And my DH hates “dieting” around me I think. I am really not a big eater, like he is. But I also lose weight and keep it off better. So it seems like I am indulging to him when I snack, but really I am maintaining so I CAN snack. And he needs to lose a few. 😉

  7. Way to go. You are both doing awesome and the meals are so healthy plus fulfilling with all that protein! Congratulations:)

  8. Way to go BeeB and Jai! I think it is awesome how well you are doing even though I feel your pain with Jai’s weight loss. That happened last year when Bryan and I went on St. Beach. He lost and lost and lost. lol
