Alpine Bird Bath Review

Alpine Bird Bath

I mentioned last year that I was teaming up with the CSN Network to review an Alpine Bird Bath from Teak, Wicker, and More.com. I love watching the birds in my yard, and the aesthetically pleasing design of this bird bath appealed to me, so I thought it would make a nice addition to the yard.

Bird Bath, Pre-Assembly

When the bird bath arrived, the first thing I did read the assembly directions. Although the product page mentions that the Alpine Bird Bath comes “complete with submersible pump”, I saw no sign of a pump in mine, which was confusing. As I followed the diagram to put it together, it gave directions on how to install the decorative top piece into the bowl of the bird bath. As I began to slot the piece into the bowl, it snapped off in my hands.

Bird Bath Breakage

The bird bath is made of lightweight resin, and the end of the decorative piece snapped off inside the slot. I emailed CSN to let them know what had happened, and they asked if I needed another bowl and top piece. But in the meantime, Jai had devised a way to drill a screw into the basin and decorative piece, holding it together without a trace. (I swear, he could fix almost anything!) Since this was a promotional item that was sent to me for review purposes, I told them not to worry about it, because Jai’s fix made it usable as it was; I wasn’t out any money and didn’t want to hassle with getting a new part. However, if I had purchased the item, I would have taken advantage of the 1 year warranty.

Bird Bath in Yard

With the bird bath fixed, we went about placing it in the yard. Our area gets extremely windy – it’s not unusual to get 65 MPH gusts in the winter – so we knew that it would be necessary to bolt it down. We put down tent spikes to secure it, and it’s stayed put just fine. During a storm last month, the decorative top piece was ripped off of the basin by wind. I decided to leave it off this time, because Jai wondered if perhaps the bath would be more appealing to birds without the decoration in the middle. So far, I have not seen any birds using it, with or without the top piece. I think it may be due to the location – I’ve never placed a bird bath in the front yard before, and the birds may be skittish to use it due to the proximity to the road and other activity. (Not to mention the neighborhood cats that I have seen creeping around in that area!) I’m going to move it to the backyard, where I’ve had previous success with bird baths. But the bath has attracted other wild animals:

Deer

  1. Now that is a good catch with the deer. I’m also happy that you pointed out the weakness and still wrote a positive review.

  2. I am sure the center piece is more for decorative appeal, but it should not dissuade birds from using it. I am glad you mentioned wind. We have strong winds and it is good to know how a product will withstand them.
Also good to know how willing the company was to replace a broken product.
    Now…about the pump?

  3. Hello, i think that i saw you visited my website thus i came
to “return the favor”.I’m attempting to find things
to improve my web site!I suppose its ok to use a few of your ideas!!
