My dad has always had a great appreciation for The Beatles. He grew up listening to their music, and has read every book and watched every documentary on them. This two-disc set contains four full hours of the show, including all of the original acts and even the commercials that aired with each episode! There is also a selection of bonus footage included on each disc, which includes clips of Ed Sullivan promoting The Beatles’ upcoming appearances, an interview with The Beatles, and a commercial for Beatles dolls!
The Beatles’ landmark debut on the Ed Sullivan show is often aired in documentaries and specials, but only brief clips. Until now I had never seen the full episodes available, let alone with all the bonus footage and rarities that are included. That’s what makes this DVD so special – this is wonderful footage that, to the best of my knowledge, isn’t available elsewhere. Even if your fan already owns a lot of Beatles videos, they likely don’t have this one yet.
With the advent of VCRs, I think many people in my generation take for granted the fact that any contemporary TV show, commercial, music video or movie is instantly available on Netflix or YouTube. But it wasn’t very long ago that TV was aired live; and once it was over, that was it, so nostalgic gems like these are few and far between for our parents. I am so excited for this DVD to come out! I love all the classic rock n roll performances from The Ed Sullivan Show but that firt Beatles show was historic. My understanding is that this DVD also includes some unseen footage and interviews of the Beatles and Ed Sullivan. I think if you are a fan of the Beatles, rock n roll and the golden era of television than you have to get this DVD. This is a piece of US history!
