Clash of The Red Rangers - The Movie

Did you know that 2013 will mark 20 years since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted? I was a Power Rangers nut as a kid, and was a devoted fan of the series until the original Pink Ranger left the show, at which point I stopped watching. The show continued to reincarnate itself with new themes and characters, and in recent years I started casually watching the series again with the modern-day incarnation, Power Rangers Samurai. I thought the characters and script was entertaining, and I love that no matter how times change, the show still sticks with the same basic formula – they may use cell phones as morphers now, but they still stick to the same pattern of “Fight the bad guys, seemingly defeat bad guy, bad guy becomes gigantic, Power Rangers pull out an elaborate assortment of zords on queue and save the day”. I don’t know, for millenial types such as myself, I think a certain amount of repetition is comforting in this changing world!

At any rate, since I genuinely enjoy watching this program, I was more than happy to receive a complimentary promo copy of Clash of The Red Rangers – The Movie, a 45 minute special presentation. This DVD comes complete with a trading card and features the TV movie in which the Power Rangers meet another Ranger from a different dimension, teaming up to fight the evil Dr. Cog. Between the Power Rangers staples of hammy acting and sometimes dubious special effects – and I mean that in the most loving way possible – this movie was a classic and thoroughly enjoyable to me, so I think fans of all ages should be able to appreciate it. I also liked the inclusion of extras, such a bloopers, audition tapes, and a segment called “Train with the Power Rangers” which reminded me of being 9 and trying to copy White Ranger’s stance while reading his martial arts tips for kids in the Fox Kids Club magazine. (Remember that?!) All in all, this is thoroughly fun and worth picking up whether you’re a Power Rangers fan of 9 or 29.

Clash of The Red Rangers – The Movie was released on DVD on March 5th and is available on Amazon (Affiliate link).
