Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo

I used to wash my hair every single day. It was such a pain to shampoo, condition, blow-dry, and straighten my hair each morning, but I felt like I had no choice: My hair would get so oily overnight that it just looked awful in the mornings unless I washed it. Sometimes I tried going without washing to see if that would stop the oiliness, but it never helped; and I wasn’t about to walk around looking like I had just stuck my head in a deep fryer, so I continued to wash it daily.

Then I met my hairdresser – who is a miracle worker – and she told me the same thing that everyone else had: Washing your hair every day is stripping the oils out and causing it to be greasier. But she also offered a solution in the form of talcum powder. She told me to reduce the number of times I washed my hair each week and use talcum powder in between washes to freshen up my hair and reduce the appearance of oily roots. It took about a month or two for my hair to become less greasy, but using talc powder as a dry shampoo helped get me through that transition period.

That was three years ago, and my hair is totally different today! My hairdresser was right: Overwashing my hair was stripping out too much oil and causing my scalp to produce even more to compensate. My hair can go longer in-between washes because my roots are much less greasy, and I can also use dry shampoos to buy a little more time when needed. In addition to the talcum powder, I’ve also used Bumble & Bumble Hair Powder. While both of these products help, they aren’t perfect: Your hair doesn’t look freshly washed after applying them, it just reduces the appearance of the oil. So when I had a chance to review Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo by Salon Grafix, I was eager to try it out and see if it would be an improvement. In order to put it to the test, I washed my hair and then documented its appearance over the following days, using the Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo to freshen up as needed.

Day 1: Washed my hair in the evening.

Day 2: These days, my hair looks normal the day after washing, so I just styled as usual without adding any extra product.

Day 3: This is when my hair starts looking greasy. Here is a “Before” picture of my unwashed, unstyled bedhead, so you can compare with how it looked after the shampoo – yikes!!!

Greasy hair

Here is my hair after using the Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo:

I liked the scent of the product and the fact that it doesn’t leave any powdery residue like the other shampoos I’ve used; that made it easier to use. To apply the product, you clip your hair into sections and spray the Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo on your hair in quick bursts. You leave it on for one minute and then brush through.

Day 4: This is where my hair was starting to look very greasy. Here I am after applying another round of the dry shampoo:

Day 2 of dry shampoo

Roots, day 2

This time, I didn’t brush the shampoo through after spraying it on – that didn’t seem to make much difference in how the product worked, and I thought it would just exacerbate the appearance of grease. I think my hair appeared oilier in real life than it does in these photos; this is definitely not my preferred look, but since I was just heading out to the gym, it worked fine.

I don’t think there is any perfect dry shampoo – nothing I’ve tried can make my hair appear the way it does when it’s freshly washed. However, I think that Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo is a great product for “Buying more time” between washes. It’s the only one I’ve tried that does not leave a powdery white residue, which I think made my hair look better and was also a lot easier to apply. Because of the hairspray-like consistency, I also noticed that it helped a little with styling, although of course you’ll need to finish with your normal hairspray if you want the style to hold. I’m glad to have a can of this on my shelf and will certainly use it in the future!

Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo is available at retail stores nationwide for $7.99.

  1. I’ve always wanted to try a dry shampoo. Your hair looks awesome in those photos, you’d never now it was a little greasy in real life. It sounds like it would be a great product to use for a day or two which could come in handy especially to new moms.

  2. That looks like it worked well. I have never tried dry shampoo but I always thought it would be a good idea for camping. May have to give it a whirl!

  3. I want this product. My hair is SO oily. I can’t help but wash it everyday since I live in Orlando because I know it gets so sweaty. URGH. This would be awesome!
