Welcome to Top Ten With…, a fun Q&A session where you’ll get to learn all about the music scene’s hottest artists! Today we’re getting to know Ava Morris, lead singer of the up-and-coming rock band Frame 42. The band just dropped their debut self-titled EP in June, and have already been highlighted by Loudwire under their “Best Rock + Metal Songs of March 2023”. They were kind enough to send me a little merch package, so I can add Frame 42 to my band t-shirt collection and say that I knew them back in the day! I’m inspired by:

I’m inspired by lots of things! When I write are usually get inspired by my surroundings or sometimes I’ll even have words or phrases just popped into my head out of nowhere or maybe lines I’ve heard in TV shows that I think are super cool and I’ll write them down in the notes app so that I have them all in one place when it’s time to sit down and write a song. What inspires me to keep going and keep making music is the love and the community that we’ve created. I love seeing people love our songs and connect with them and it makes me just want to write a million more.

I realized I wanted to play music when:

I’ve always been interested in music. I grew up with the piano at my grandma’s house before I even knew what music was and I always was drawn to it. I would bang on the keys and try to write stories with the notes (even though they weren’t too good). My mom and I always watched American Idol when I was little and I remember one day thinking I could sing like them if I really tried. At recess the next day, my friend Peyton and I had a sing off with two of my friends in the grade above and it was very intense but (as I remember it) we won! singing was so fun and that’s when I realized I wanted to do it for the rest of my life.

Four songs you might find on my personal playlist:

I absolutely love this question. Right now, you’ll find “Guinevere” by Crosby stills and Nash, “The One” by the Lemon Twigs, “Possum Kingdom” by Toadies, and “Winning” by Santana.

One word I would use to describe myself:

One word I would use to describe myself is creative. I love painting, drawing, making collages, writing, I am a very right brain oriented person. I love coming up with single covers and album covers for us! I also love making posters for upcoming shows and fun merch items!

The best part of being a musician is:

The best part about being a musician is being able to hang out with your friends all the time doing what you love and being able to make people happy

Right now, I’m most excited about:

Right now, I’m most excited about our show at the Machine Shop May 19! We’ll be playing all of our brand new songs and I’m so excited for everyone to hear them. After that I’m excited to finally be able to release those songs so everyone can have them!

Something most people don’t know about me is:

This is totally not music related, but something most people don’t know about me is that I played volleyball in high school! freshman year I was on the freshman team but I worked so hard over the summer to be on the varsity team and my sophomore year I had finally made it and was on varsity for three years!

One of my happiest moments was:

One of my happiest moments was playing the Blue Ridge rock festival in Virginia last year. It was so fun and exciting and one of the first big festivals that we’ve ever played before. We had artist passes so we were able to go backstage to every single artist and it was absolutely mind blowing. it almost felt like we were doing something wrong and going places where we weren’t supposed to be but since we had the artist pass we could go wherever we wanted to! We got to meet a ton of cool people including Lzzy Hale from Halestorm, Joey Belladonna from Anthrax, and Mario Duplantier from Gojira! We also got to be in the front row with the artist passes. It was like a dream come true!

My music is:

our music is almost like updated classic rock! We all grew up listening to that kind of music because of our parents and we’ve all grown to love it and decided that’s the music that we want to make. We have a lot of influences. Metal influences, folk influences, even some country influences play a part in creating a sound that’s unique to us.

In ten years, I see myself:

Hopefully looking back at the loads of grammy’s that I have won! But seriously, I want to be able to look back at what we’ve done during this time and feel so proud and accomplished and recognize how far that we’ve come.
