Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! I hope you’re all enjoying this long Father’s Day weekend, and taking some time to reflect on Juneteenth. We’re excited to be wrapping up another amazing Mother’s & Father’s Day Gift Guide with our grand finale: An in-depth review of one of our top Father’s Day gift picks, the Geneverse HomePower 2 Series Solar Generator.

Geneverse Solar Panel

Living on the Oregon Coast for almost 30 years, power outages have been a constant fixture. From that time I missed an episode of The X-Files in 1999 – hey, this was before DVR existed! – to interrupting me at work and parties, power outages are a perpetual nuisance. The worst power outage we’ve ever experienced was in December 2007, when we lost power for 4 days. We stayed with Grammy most of the time because she has a fireplace and woodburning stove, while our house was left with no heat. I remember at one point, she put a gallon of milk outside because it was colder out there than in the fridge!

As the outage continued, we had a cooking marathon on her woodburning stove before all our food went bad. It was more than we could eat at once, so I took a stockpot full of freezer soup to a friend who hadn’t had a hot meal in days. Not to mention, this outage happened right when I was about to do laundry – of course – so by the 4th day I literally had to wear the bottoms from my Wonder Woman Halloween costume under my clothes because all my undergarments were in the hamper. As it cool as it sounds to be having a Clark Kent moment, we were all SO over it and grateful when the power finally came back on. And we got off easy – some people in the area were without power for 2 weeks. 2 weeks!!!

Geneverse Solar Panels, Formerly Generark

Suffice to say, when Geneverse reached out and asked if I would be interested in reviewing the HomePower 2, I immediately said yes. Although I’m always envious every time the power goes out and I hear that familiar hum of a nearby generator and see a neighbor with lights on, I’ve never felt like it was worth the investment to have a bulky generator that would take up space and that constantly requires gas. I loved the idea of having a compact, solar powered unit that would be convenient to use and store!

You may recognize Geneverse as Generark – they just rebranded this week, on June 15th. And if you haven’t heard of the brand before, it’s high time to get acquainted!

Setting up the Geneverse Solar Panels on the roof

The Geneverse HomePower 2 is beautifully designed, looking like a sleek appliance. The whole unit is portable – the battery is easy to move and has very well-made wheels that are smooth even over rough surfaces. The solar panels do not require any kind of installation – you can place them wherever you like to charge the battery, and then zip them up in their carrying cases to store until you need them. There is so much attention to detail with every aspect of the product – even the carrying cases are carefully thought out, with the best and most seamless zippers I’ve ever seen.

Because this whole unit is portable, you can place it anywhere that you get sun. We chose to put them on a flat spot on our roof, because that’s where we get the most sunlight, and we also like that we can leave them unattended there, because we don’t yet have a fence and we live on a busy street. I think it’s unlikely that anyone would steal these, but we have experienced theft and vandalism before, and these are light enough that you can move them up and down a ladder easily. (And yes, we are going to put up a fence at some point!) But you don’t have to put them on a roof – you could easily set this up in your yard or driveway. And since it’s fully portable, you can take it with you if you rent or plan on moving.

  1. This is great! We have a loud, bulky generator but would much rather have this. The fact that it is slim and quieter is a big plus. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Great review and unboxing.
I have wanted the peace of mind of a generator but have been intimidated by the size and price of traditional generators. I like that this unit offers portability and uses solar panels.

  3. Hhhmmm….this is a good appliance to have with you. You just never know when you will need it. Thanks for sharing about it and I hope you had a reflective Juneteenth.

  4. oh wow! this is a amazing. I wish the brand would be available in our country. I will definitely grab one for the household.

  5. This is totally helpful , last December we were hit by a storm which left us with no electricity for 2 weeks and for some areas more than a month. So having this solar panel which is portable and easy to assemble would be very useful move forth.

  6. In 1993 we were without power for almost 3 weeks in East Tennessee. It was very memorable and lots of quality family time. This sounds like a great thing to have for emergencies.

  7. Whoa, I’ll definitely go crazy if we don’t have electricity for 4 days! I think that a solar-powered generator is a good way to go.

  8. Awesome items to have! Looks very handy and dependable. Perfect for any outdoor activity. Such a great find, got to check this out!

  9. Sad, there was no mention of the power (KW or AH) requirements for home use & how the Geneverse solar panels matched up. Was there a battery for power storage as well as an inverter? Did you need more solar panels?
