Getting Outdoors With Camp Chateaugay

Camp Chateaugay

I have never been camping in my life. The opportunity just never arose as a child, and I haven’t gone out of my way to pursue a camping vacation as an adult, although I’m sure the chance will present itself at some point. I’m not big on “Roughing it”, but as long as I can find a way to operate my hair straightener in the woods, I’m good. Ha! Jai, on the other hand, is Mr. Outdoors – someday when we get the chance, I know he would have fun taking me on some sort of camping trip and teaching me to fish.

In fact, Jai even worked as a camp counselor when he was in high school. Yes, his full name is Jason, he was a camp counselor, AND he was born on a Friday the 13th. I actually bought him a hockey mask as a joke when we were first dating! 😉 And you know what else is a coincidence? The fact that Camp Chateaugay, a website I have been looking at this afternoon, is located in Merrill, New York. Merrill is Jai’s last name, so if he had worked as a camp counselor at this place, it would have been like camping inception or something!

I enjoyed learning more about Camp Chateaugay – besides the fact that this camp is located in a city with an awesome name, I think it looks like a lot of fun for the kids who go there! They have a ton of activities listed and the atmosphere sounds really friendly. I think if you have the financial resources, camping can be a really great experience for kids, because you get to try new things and learn a lot while having a great time.

Have your kids ever gone camping?

  1. My oldest son, who is 11, is at a Boy Scout campout this weekend (with his dad, thank God). I don’t mind camping but haven’t been since I started having my basketball team. The youngest kid is getting old enough that we could probably all go in the spring! Now we need a huge tent!

  2. I went camping a number of times when I was a kid. I remember it was actually kind of fun. I can see my kids HATING it now since they don’t really like the outdoors all the much, and the fact they can’t play their Nintendo DSes would drive them nuts. 🙂
