Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Today’s Farm Freeze-Dried Fruit – Review & Giveaway

Food is always plentiful during the holiday season, and gift baskets packed with goodies are always a big hit. But if you’re feeling a bit bombarded by tempting treats this time of year, you might dread the onslaught of diet-busters. This year, how would you like to give a gift pack filled with something that’s delicious and healthy? Justus Foods would like to give three lucky Contest Corner readers a “Bag O’ Gold” filled with four packages of their yummy freeze-dried fruit, as well as a 10% off coupon, so read on!

My Take:

Justus Foods sent me my own “Bag O’ Gold” to taste test, filled with four flavors of their freeze-dried fruit: Apple Cinnamon, Pineapple, Peach, and Strawberry. I decided to serve the fruit snacks with our lunch, and the first thing I heard out of Jai was “Mmmm!”. He thought that this was “Outstandingly good”, and said this stands out in his mind as being an especially tasty snack. Fruit takes on a whole new flavor after it’s freeze-dried, and it’s fabulous.

Both of us really enjoyed sampling the “Bag O’ Gold”. I think that snacks like these are the perfect pantry staple, because it’s a good way to enjoy fruit when you’re in a hurry; the convenient packages make it perfect for tossing into a lunchbox. It’s also a great way to “Sneak in” more fruit servings during meals – I’m the first one to admit that I’m always looking for new ways to incorporate more fruit into my daily diet. And these snacks are just pure fruit, with no added preservatives; click here to check out the nutritional info.

I would love to give or receive a “Bag O’ Gold” as a festive gift – it’s tasty, healthy, and it sure beats fruitcake!

  1. I learned that the products are packed in a foil “pillow-style” bag that has an extended shelf-life of at least 18 months.

  2. I learned that Rusty Justus started Justus Foods, Inc. in April 2006 after many years working in the food industry.

  3. I learned the company started in ’06 and is based out of Georgetown, TX

  4. I actually checked out the nutrition info and found out that during freeze drying, all of the water and weight is removed from the fruit, but none of the flavor or nutrition. This is definitely better than dehydrated food that tends to lose nutritional value.

  5. I learned that an entire package of their Strawberries only has 45 calories!

  6. I learned that the bags are “about the size of a regular bag of potato chips.” theprophecygirl at hotmail dot com

  7. I learned that they ship by UPS only and will ship all orders within one day of receiving the order. Thanks.

  8. I found it interesting that they don’t use any “Products of China”. Their Apples are from Michigan, Strawberries & Peaches are from California, and Pineapple is from either Costa Rica or Honduras.

    Thanks ~ megalon22{at}yahoo{dot}com
