Sarah McLachlan – “Laws of Illusion” Album Review

Laws of Illusion - Sarah McLachlan

Today marks the release of Sarah McLachlan’s first studio album in seven years, Laws Of Illusion. And she’s back in a big way: This month also marks the return of the famed Lilith Fair festival, which will be hitting cities across the US and Canada this summer.

Fans will be delighted by this record, which delivers McLachlan’s signature sound. Introspective and honest, the ruminations on Laws of Illusion are bittersweet, but ultimately hopeful. This album also marked a first for McLachlan in terms of how it was recorded: “We were able to record ‘live on the floor,’ with myself and the musicians all right there in the room,” McLachlan explained on her website. “It was quick and exciting, and really a first for me to work that way.”

The first single from Illusion is the breezy, optimistic “Loving You Is Easy” – you can check out the video for the song below. Two of my personal favorites on this album are the catchy “Heartbreak” and “U Want Me 2”, which originally appeared on Closer-The Best of Sarah McLachlan.

Want to check out this record for yourself? Through the end of today, June 15th, you can stream the album in its entirety by visiting the Laws Of Illusion Listening Party on Facebook. You can also catch McLachlan on “Chelsea Lately” tonight, where she will discuss the album and perform.

Laws Of Illusion is available today on Amazon for $9.99. The One2One Network sent me a promotional copy of the album for review purposes.
