The Internet has revolutionized how we do everything – including how we learn. More and more online college courses are becoming available for those who would like to study at home. I’ve never taken a class online, but I can see why it could work well for some people. Earning a degree online could provide a more flexible alternative for those with hectic schedules or other commitments that might make attending a traditional college more difficult. There’s a limit to what you can study online – obviously, if you want to become a surgeon, you’ll need to attend a brick-and-mortar college! – but for professions such as teaching, there are more learning options available. According to the University of Southern California, their USC Rossier School of Education’s MAT@USC program offers “Current educators and aspiring teachers the prestige of earning a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from an elite research university with the convenience and flexibility of studying online.” I had a look at their website, which gives a basic rundown of their program information. To learn more, you’re asked to take a short quiz which will prompt you for your contact information. If you’d like more information without having to provide your address, there is a link to MAT@USC at the bottom of the page that appears to have a little more information regarding the program – I think it would be a good idea if they made this link more visible on the page.

There are drawbacks to everything, and deciding on a college is not a decision to take lightly. If you’re considering furthering your eduction online, USC is just one of many options available to you in this new era of learning.

  1. I have done online classe for the past 3 years and I am just one semester from getting my degree. It doesn’t work for everyone, but I find it to work out well for me as I stay at home with my kiddos. It does take alot of will power though!
