Big Time Movie

Last week, I received a promo DVD is the mail of Big Time Movie. I actually had the BTR movie saved in my DVR when I received this, so the timing was pretty good! I do enjoy watching Big Time Rush. I actually really enjoy their slick pop music and listen to it a fair bit! Although the show isn’t as funny as iCarly in my opinion, it is still amusing and a cute show. I think my favorite part is the way they poke fun at manufactured pop bands – it’s very tongue-in-cheek. So, I settled down to check out their new movie!

The plot of Big Time Movie follows the boys to London, where they prepare to kick off their worldwide tour. Thanks to a mix-up at baggage collection, the gang end up entangled in a spy plot and must hurry to save the world and their tour. The film features the music of The Beatles – I must say I cringed when I read that, as I wasn’t really looking forward to auto-tuned cover versions of the classics. But I actually quite enjoyed it – naturally, these covers are very plastic, but I enjoyed it for what it was; it’s all in good fun. The movie pays tribute to A Hard Day’s Night with its silliness and some of the musical montages where the guys have their clothes and hair styled to look like the Fab Four. The depiction of England was about as cringeworthy as I expected, but in all this movie made for an enjoyable and lighthearted watch. If you like the show, you’ll like Big Time Movie!

This DVD is a double feature, and also includes the original Nickelodeon TV movie Rags. This flick, starring Keke Palmer and Max Schneider with a supporting role from Drake Bell, is a loose re-telling of the Cinderella story. Rags follows janitor Charlie (Schneider), who lives with his cruel stepfather and stepbrothers after the death of his mother and dreams of someday being able to express his musical talent. His path crosses with pop superstar Kadee (Palmer), who “Has it all” but dreams of being able to express her real self. This film is a musical and packed with poptastic songs. I did find it amusing when they broke into song on the streets and all of a sudden their voices came out auto-tuned! 😉 Jokes aside, this is a cute and wholesome movie for young audiences.

The Big Time Movie/Rags double feature DVD will be released on August 28th; click here to pre-order it on Amazon now.
