SpongeBob SquarePants: Ghouls Fools

Arrgh, me mateys! Be prepared for a swashbuckling, spooky time with SpongeBob SquarePants: Ghoul Fools, the latest DVD compilation from the yellow sponge under the sea. Every episode on this collection features The Flying Dutchman, from “Money Talks”, where Mr. Krabs makes a deal with the Dutchman so that he can talk to money, to “The Curse of Bikini Bottom”, where SpongeBob and Patrick ruin the Dutchman’s date by accidentally cutting off his beard with Squidward’s lawnmower. This 7-episode collection also includes the feature presentation of “Ghoul Fools”, the second SpongeBob Halloween special. This double-episode shows what happens when SpongeBob and Patrick stumble on a haunted pirate ship. My favorite part of this episode is when the gang gets trapped in limbo with their own personal nightmares. Squidward is naturally stuck with a giant SpongeBob, while Mr. Krabs is forced to spend money; Patrick’s torment is supposed to be a delicious doughnut just out of reach, but he’s so dumb that he gets distracted and the doughnut is the one that ends up being tormented!

This DVD will be released on August 28th and is the perfect thing to add to your collection for Halloween parties! Just one quick note for parents of little ones – I thought the episode “Ghost Host” was funny, but some of the images might be a little creepy for smaller kids, so you might want to pre-screen it first. It’s nothing bad; the plot is simply that the Flying Dutchman is trying to spook SpongeBob with images of creepy faces and spiders and such. For some reason, it struck me as something that might have bothered me when I was little, so I just thought I’d throw it out there. Keep in mind, I was also scared of Max Headroom, and today’s children might be more nonchalant than I was. 😉

ETA: I also noticed that there are supposed to be some special features on here, but I’ve clicked all over the DVD and I cannot for the life of me find them. Maybe it’s an Easter egg or something? If anyone finds it, can you let me know? I really want to see the SpongeBob “Yule Log” it promises. 😉

SpongeBob SquarePants: Ghoul Fools is available to pre-order on Amazon now. I received a promo copy of this DVD so that I could give you my expert opinion on all things SpongeBob!

  1. Oh, no! I’m going to have to keep this review away from my daughter. She is a budding SpongeBob fan and will make me pick up the DVD as soon as it’s out.

  2. My son would love this! He just talked me into buying him a set of Sponge Bob bubble baths this weekend. He also goes bonkers when we drive past a McDonalds lately and they have Sponge Bob signs.
