Car Headlights by Sylvania – Review & Giveaway – Ends 09/29

Sylvania

Sylvania are a company that specialize in lighting products. They offer a variety of products for automotive lighting – and today they would like to give away a pair of headlights to one lucky Contest Corner reader, so read on!

Sylvania sent me a set of headlights to use in our 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. We had issues changing out the light last time, and the headlight was crooked because it wouldn’t affix back in properly. (If you’ve ever tried to change out a headlight on a Grand Am, you know what I mean! Ugh!) We decided that this would be a perfect opportunity to get that fixed, so Jai spent some time working on the car and managed to not only install the new Sylvania light, but get the headlight cover fixed. Here is a photo of the car:

On the right hand side, you can see the new Sylvania headlight. On the left hand side, you can see the old headlight. The Sylvania light is noticeably brighter – according to the pamphlet which Sylvania sent me, headlights get dimmer over time, so that makes sense. This new headlight is brighter and clearer than the last one, so we are quite satisfied.

Sylvania also provided me with these “Back-to-School Tips” to share with you:

“New outfits and backpacks are always first picks for back to school shopping, but one item often overlooked is the family car. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic accidents are the single most common cause of death for children ages 4 to 18, and autumn is the most dangerous time of year for pedestrians, accounting for 29 percent of pedestrian-related fatalities. Fading headlights may be the most overlooked safety feature when it comes to vehicle and pedestrian safety.

So as kids head back to school by foot and car this fall, SYLVANIA is encouraging families to make improving their driving visibility and safety an easy, fun family activity by following these tips on headlight replacement:

· Mark Your Calendar – Every August, check your headlights before the school season starts. Think you’ll forget? Have your children put a sticker on the family calendar to serve as a reminder.
· Do a Spot Check – Lights don’t just burn out, they dim overtime. Park on a level surface facing five feet from a building wall or your garage door. Then, turn your headlights on. If the circles of light are bright and white, you are good to go! If they’re yellow or dim, it’s time to swap out your bulbs.
· Upgrade Your Lighting – If you want to see better and further down the road, consider upgrading. SilverStar ULTRA bulbs by SYLVANIA provide up to 40 percent increased down road visibility, up to 50 percent increased side road visibility and up to 50 percent brighter light compared to worn standard halogen headlights, which is what is most likely in your vehicle. These bulbs deliver the whitest and brightest light of all SYLVANIA halogen products.
· Avoid Double Trouble – Always change your headlights in pairs. If one has dimmed or burnt out, it’s likely that the other one is not far behind.
· Don’t be Afraid to Ask – Know your vehicle year, make and model and use a catalog to find the part number needed. If you are having trouble, ask an assistant for help – that’s what they are there for and chances are, they will quickly be able to help you find the right bulbs for your car.”

  1. Checked out the site! I first saw that the company is super into conservation, which is ALWAYS a plus in my book. Although a few of the pages talked about the benefits of normal lamps and how they relate energy conservation, I kind of just put two and two together regarding the headlight, being that the Sylvania headlights are made with less energy, have a longer life span, and produce either the same amount of light (or better, basing on your photo of the difference!). I like how they put so much quality into their products…it really “shines” (pun intended) on their values as a company. 🙂

  2. You’ll find SYLVANIA products in many large commercial operations such as health clubs, outlet stores, office buildings and customer support centers.

  3. I found out that I can recycle compact CFL’s at my local Lowe’s or Home Depot. That’s convenient.

  9. I learned how long signal lights have been used and in existence:

Signal Lights have been in use since the early 1900s starting with the license plate light.

    Something I didn’t know!

  10. “SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting does more than change the way you look. It changes the way you see.” That’s a catchy slogan – and I really could use these lights! jsrip@juno.com

  11. I learned that the Sylvania headlights are made with less energy, have a longer life span, and produce either the same amount of light or better.
