Laundry and household chores are an inescapable fact of life. While cleaning may not rank up there with people’s favorite ways to spend time, I must say that I do enjoy reviewing cleaning products. It’s satisfying to find new ways to try the same daily tasks!
So when I had the opportunity to review a new laundry soap as a Naturally Savvy Approved Blogger, I was happy to take them up on the offer. The product on offer was Laundry Powder ZERO by Ecover. The name comes from the fact that this product is fragrance-free, so there is ZERO scent added – something that those with sensitive skin, nostrils, or just a preference for the simple will love! Ecover touts sustainability as one of its guiding principles, and this laundry detergent is made from plant-based and mineral ingredients, so this company will intrigue those who are eco-minded.
I received a complimentary box of this laundry powder to test out for myself. There’s never a shortage of laundry to be done, so I started up the washing machine and got to work!
As you can see from this photo of the suds in my washing machine, it foams up pretty well! In true eco-friendly fashion, the box is just powder and does not come with a disposable measuring cup, so that you can use your own and avoid waste. After doing two loads, I realized I had been reading the high-efficiency machine instructions by mistake. For a medium load in a toploading machine, you’re supposed to used 2/5 of a cup and I used 1/4 cup, which is what you would put in an HE machine. My washing machine is the exact opposite of efficient, so oops. 😉 There probably would have been more suds in that photo if I had used the correct amount, hah! However, it still did a good job; I’ve found you can often use a lot less laundry detergent than recommended if it’s a normal load an not heavily soiled. Frugal AND eco-friendly tip there!
I’ve been using this soap all week and I’m very happy with it. My clothes are clean, and they smell fragrance-free, but still clean/fresh. If you’re the type of person who likes to blast their clothes with chemicals to really feel like they’re clean, or you just like the heavy perfumes, then you may not like this as well as your normal products. For me personally, I don’t mind what type of soap I use as long as it gets the job done – sure, I love scented stuff, but as long as my clothes are clean, it’s all good! I like the concept behind the company and I am happy with the performance of its soap, so I am pleased to have it as part of my laundry shelf!

For some reason all my dish towels smell like marijuana. You laugh, but I’m serious. It’s becuase my husband is MIXING SCENTS. He’s using one smelly detergent with one smelly softener. I’m so sick of it. I want a box of this stuff.

Ooh I love finding new eco-friendly laundry soaps and I’ve never heard of this one. I love all he suds!
I do happen to love to clean. It’s therapeutic for me. I recently purchased an HE machine. Never read directions on how much detergent to use though. lol I would love to try this.
