SentrySafe Pink 1100 Fire-Safe Chest

If there was a fire in your home and you could save one item, what would that be? What would you want to protect if there was a natural disaster? We’ve all mulled this question over at some point. I live in a tsunami zone, and I’ve given thought to what I might grab if we get an advance tsunami warning with several hours to prepare. For me, it would be my journals, my photos, and my childhood stuffed animals – yes, I’m sentimental!

Our area had a tsunami evacuation this year following the devastating earthquake in Japan. We’ve evacuated to higher ground on multiple occasions in the last few years – it was a “False alarm” each time, thank goodness, and I really appreciate the precaution that our city takes with evacuating its residents whenever there is a possible threat. Because of this, I’ve been thinking about the how to get all of my important items stored in a way that would either protect them or make them easy to grab in the event of an emergency. So when SentrySafe offered to send me one of their Pink 1100 Fire-Safe Chests to review, I was very interested to see how this product might address some of my needs and help protect my important items.

The exterior of this safe measures 6.1 in. x 14.3 in. x 11.0 in., with the interior storage space measuring at 3.5 in. x 12.0 in. x 7.5 in. You will notice that this safe is a cheerful shade of pink. Not only is this super fun – pink is my favorite color, so this goes perfectly with my decor! – but it’s for a great cause. For each SentrySafe pink product purchased, $1.00 will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, up to $25,000. As SentrySafe says in the leaflet that came with this safe: “Being an 80-year family owned and operated company we understand that more often than not, the most important things in your life are not things at all, but people. By purchasing this safe, you not only have found a means of storing and protecting your items, but you have also helped to support the cause of finding a cure for cancer.”

To test out this safe, I decided to fill it with important documents, including my passport. I also tucked in a jewelry box that contains rings which my grandma gave me. As you can see, this is a great place to store them. This safe offers 30-minute fire protection of CDs, DVDs, memory sticks and USB drives up to 1,550°F. That’s pretty impressive! I’m planning on making CD backups of all my photos and my websites to store in this safe. And the fire-resistance of these safes was put to the test last week when SentrySafe did a live broadcast where they loaded thousands of dollars worth of items into one of their Big Bolts Fire Safes and tossed it into a 1550 degree fire for 30 minutes!

This safe is designed just for fire protection, but I also think it would be good to have in the event of a tsunami. I don’t think it would be totally waterproof, but I think it would offer enough protection to make these items retrievable. Also, the handle makes it quick and easy to grab in an emergency – it’s not as heavy as it looks! The only thing I would change about this safe would be to simply make it bigger so I could pack more of my important items in there!

The SentrySafe Pink 1100 Fire-Safe Chest offers an affordable method of protecting your documents, retailing at only $24.99. 1. Oh my gosh! I loooove that! Quite a few things around my house are pink solely because I wanted to support the cause. This would be a WONDERFUL addition to my bedroom! 😛 That’s a crazy low price, too! I would have expected it to be a lot more.

  2. I have this exact same safe, except in gray. What I would do to trade it in for a pink one to support breast cancer awareness. We use our safe for all important documents. It’s the perfect size.
