Welcome to a special holiday edition of Top Ten With…, a fun Q&A session where you’ll get to learn all about the music scene’s hottest artists! Our next Gift Guide Featured Artist is Frank Gallo of Rolie Polie Guacamole. He got his start in the entertainment industry at age 2 and appeared in a variety of projects, including one of my favorite childhood TV shows, Pete and Pete. He recorded his first-length album at age 15 and has continued making music ever since. Now, the former child musician is making music for the next generation of children as part of Rolie Polie Guacamole, who are gearing up to release their 11th children’s album on January 19, 2024. Get to know Frank through our exclusive interview!

I’m inspired by: Storytellers and song writers that make unapologetic timeless work in their own voice / style. Also by the kids I teach, they help form a lot of song ideas.

I realized I wanted to play music when: I started writing songs at the age of two with my dad, and recording music not too long after with both parents. I made my first full length Lp at age 15 and haven’t stopped.

Four songs you might find on my personal playlist:
Royksöpp Monument
Primus Kalamazoo
Shellac Dude Incredible
Radiohead Where I End and You Begin

One word I would use to describe myself: Relentless

The best part of being a musician is:
Singing my way through life. It’s humbling to only sing and play guitar in order to pay my bills and live. I constantly thank the universe for lending me this gift.

Right now, I’m most excited about:
Sharing the 77 songs we’ve recorded over the last year with the world.

Something most people don’t know about me is: I’m a run streaker, I’ve run 1230 days in a row including 8 marathons and 5 ultras.

One of my happiest moments was: Playing a show as the band Ween for Halloween this year.

My music is: The story of my life. I can look back to different albums and when I listen its like time traveling. I love how vast and ever changing music is as a medium. No matter what shape the composition has taken over the last 21 years, each song helps summon the next. It never gets old or ceases to feel like magic. In the past few years with the right team plus lots of trial and error, we’ve really honed our process and made art that we thoroughly enjoy making and listening to.

In ten years, I see myself: As a musician you always hope to be playing larger shows and touring more, but I hope in 10 years that we are still making quality music that we love, and that more and more people will hear and enjoy it.
