Review & Giveaway: Belkin Conserve Surge Protector
*****This giveaway has now closed.******

If your house has as many electronics as mine does, then you are well aware of the power that they use and the impact that this has – both on your pocketbook and the planet. So Contest Corner and Belkin have teamed up to bring you a special Earth Day giveaway – one lucky winner will receive a Belkin Conserve Surge Protector (a $49.99 value)!

About The Belkin Conserve:

From Belkin.com:

“Belkin’s Conserve Energy-Saving Surge Protector conveniently minimizes standby power by enabling you to turn off the power to multiple devices with just one click of the remote switch. The remote switch easily cuts off or activates the power that flows to devices plugged into Conserve’s Switchable outlets, while devices such as DVRs or Routers can be plugged into the Always-On outlets, since they require a continuous power supply.

Most home electronics continue to use energy, even when you’ve turned them off. This wasted energy is known as Standby Power, which adds up fast. Standby Power impacts not only the environment, but also your electricity bill, as it can account for up to 10% of your household power consumption.”

My Take:

With all the electricity that we use, I was very interested to test out the Conserve. I decided to try it on my entertainment center, because that’s an area where I know a lot of devices suck up power needlessly.

Once we hooked it up and mounted it on the wall, I plugged my answering machine and cordless phone charger into the “always on” slots, while the TV and DVD were plugged into the “switchable” outlets. Since those devices are off most of the time, this seems like a great way to save power. I also love that the Conserve comes with a clip to keep the cords nice and tidy!
I mounted the remote switch on the wall, right next to the light switch. This way, I can try to remember to turn it off when I’m leaving the house.
I think the Conserve is a great idea – I’ll be interested to see if I notice any difference on my power bill. Either way, saving energy is always better for the planet!

Save Some Green:

Belkin is running a special discount throughout the month of April in honor of Earth Day. If you purchase a Conserve unit through Belkin.com before April 30th, you can save $15 by using promo code earthday09. (Note: This discount only applies to the single purchase of the Conserve.)

  8. I like the convenience of the remote & love the 2 outlets that don’t get shut off. I was just wondering how i’d use it on my tv stuff without shutting off the tivo!

  9. Plasma tv eats up a whole lot of power keeping its electrons excited even when it’s off, having a switch that wasn’t behind and under the entertainment center could save me a lot of $$ every month!

  10. I really like that it has a remote control to switch the power on and off. Who wants to reach down and get your hand stuck in all those wires that surround a surge protector!! Pretty cool device!

  11. I need a new surge protector period for my computer stuff. I love Belkin products. My favorite thing on this one is how each plug spot has room for big bulky plugs.
