Review & Giveaway: Belkin Conserve Surge Protector
*****This giveaway has now closed.******

If your house has as many electronics as mine does, then you are well aware of the power that they use and the impact that this has – both on your pocketbook and the planet. So Contest Corner and Belkin have teamed up to bring you a special Earth Day giveaway – one lucky winner will receive a Belkin Conserve Surge Protector (a $49.99 value)!

About The Belkin Conserve:

From Belkin.com:

“Belkin’s Conserve Energy-Saving Surge Protector conveniently minimizes standby power by enabling you to turn off the power to multiple devices with just one click of the remote switch. The remote switch easily cuts off or activates the power that flows to devices plugged into Conserve’s Switchable outlets, while devices such as DVRs or Routers can be plugged into the Always-On outlets, since they require a continuous power supply.

Most home electronics continue to use energy, even when you’ve turned them off. This wasted energy is known as Standby Power, which adds up fast. Standby Power impacts not only the environment, but also your electricity bill, as it can account for up to 10% of your household power consumption.”

My Take:

With all the electricity that we use, I was very interested to test out the Conserve. I decided to try it on my entertainment center, because that’s an area where I know a lot of devices suck up power needlessly.

Once we hooked it up and mounted it on the wall, I plugged my answering machine and cordless phone charger into the “always on” slots, while the TV and DVD were plugged into the “switchable” outlets. Since those devices are off most of the time, this seems like a great way to save power. I also love that the Conserve comes with a clip to keep the cords nice and tidy!
I mounted the remote switch on the wall, right next to the light switch. This way, I can try to remember to turn it off when I’m leaving the house.
I think the Conserve is a great idea – I’ll be interested to see if I notice any difference on my power bill. Either way, saving energy is always better for the planet!

Save Some Green:

Belkin is running a special discount throughout the month of April in honor of Earth Day. If you purchase a Conserve unit through Belkin.com before April 30th, you can save $15 by using promo code earthday09. (Note: This discount only applies to the single purchase of the Conserve.)

  3. My favorite thing about the Conserve is that it can help me to save both energy and money at the same time. It’s good for the environment and it’s good for me!

  4. It minimizes standby power by enabling you to turn off the power to multiple devices with just one click of the remote switch.

  5. If I could save anywhere near 10% on my electric bill (as they talk about on the site), it would be fantastic!

  6. My favorite feature of the Belkin Conserve, like many others have said, would have to be the Always-On function. I would also use this with my home entertainment center, and it would be great to be able to leave vital pieces of equipment, like my DVR, on when other non-essential items can be turned off. That’s smart design! Thanks a lot for the chance to win one.

  7. My favorite thing is that it offers both options in one unit. You can choose which devices will be “always on” and which ones you want to be able to turn off when not in use. Great idea.

  8. I like that the remote allows us o save energy, but that we can turn some items off and leave some on.

  9. I love the convenience of it – one switch controls multiple devices – great idea! Thanks for having the giveaway!

  10. i love that it will save me money and energy ..i hate big electric bills 🙁

  11. I really like the fact that you have the option of plugging in some appliances on the Always On function.

  12. I love having a remote. It is so hard to get to the switch of my surge protector so I don’t usually turn it off even though I know I should.

  13. My favorite feature is the remote switch– it’s the “crawling under the furniture” thing that keeps me from trying to reduce “standby power” consumption.

  14. Controls one appliance or an entire system with a single remote switch

  15. Turning Everything off has been the biggest thing that has kept me from getting the energy saver products (which Ive really wanted to do) with the belkin surge protecter I can just turn off the Accesories till I need them and keep the computer plugged in. I love it!!

  16. I love how you can choose to put some devices on stand by!
Things like your vcr/dvd player burn electricity even when they are not on………which means higher bills.

I did not know they made a surge protector that gave you an option to cut the power to some of the outlets while leaving power to tohers.
I want one of these so bad!
